Heating & Cooling Service in Drexel, NC
Historic mill homes with low crawlspaces — mini-splits are the smart move here.
Drexel is a small, historic mill town in Burke County that sits along the railroad between Valdese and Morganton. Like many former textile communities in the North Carolina foothills, Drexel has a housing stock that includes original mill homes from the early 1900s alongside mid-century and more recent construction. Starnes Heating & Air is about 20 minutes from Drexel and has been providing HVAC service to this community for over 25 years.

HVAC Service Built for Drexel
Drexel's mill home heritage means many of the older houses in town share common HVAC challenges: small room sizes with narrow hallways that restrict airflow, low crawlspaces that make duct access difficult, and original construction that predates modern insulation standards. We have worked on many of these homes and know how to navigate the limitations without tearing into the structure unnecessarily. For mill homes that have never had central HVAC, ductless mini-splits are often the smartest investment because they provide heating and cooling without requiring ductwork in spaces that were never designed for it.

Reviews from Drexel Area Customers
262+ verified reviews across Google, Ruud, and Facebook“The Starnes team installed the original HVAC system in our home. We chose Starnes again for a new basement unit based on the quality of their first job. The team was professional, added new ductwork, maintained our existing unit, and upgraded our thermostat. We are very satisfied.”

“Absolutely the best HVAC company I’ve ever worked with! They came out the same day, diagnosed the issue quickly, and had everything fixed at a fair price — no upsell nonsense. The technician was professional, friendly, and explained how everything works. Highly recommend!”

“Starnes Heating & Air replaced both of my units in 2022. When the upstairs unit stopped working on a weekend, they sent a technician promptly. Isaac found a clogged condensation line, cleaned it out, and checked the other unit to make sure its line was clear too. Outstanding customer service from the office call to the service call!”
