About Our Service in Valdese

A Colony Town with Unique Building Materials

Valdese is a unique Burke County town with deep roots in its Waldensian heritage, founded by Italian immigrants in the 1890s. The town has a distinctive character with stone and brick homes in the older sections near downtown, mid-century neighborhoods along Eldred Street, and newer development along the Lovelady Road corridor. At about 25 minutes from our shop, Valdese is well within our standard service area, and we have been maintaining and installing HVAC systems here for over two decades.

What Makes Valdese Homes Different

Valdese's older stone and brick construction presents specific HVAC challenges. These materials are excellent at holding heat in summer but can make homes stuffy without proper ventilation. Conversely, the thermal mass of brick helps retain warmth in winter, which means Valdese homes with good insulation and properly sized systems can be very efficient to heat. We also serve the McGalliard Falls area, where homes near the creek tend to have higher humidity levels that can strain air conditioning systems and promote mold growth if the system is not properly managing indoor humidity.

A Town Unlike Any Other

Waldensian Roots, Lasting Craftsmanship

Valdese was founded in 1893 by Waldensian Protestants who emigrated from the Cottian Alps of northern Italy. They brought with them a tradition of stone masonry and careful construction that is still evident in the town's older homes and public buildings. The Old Rock School — built from local fieldstone in the 1920s and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places — flies the Italian flag alongside the American and North Carolina flags as a permanent tribute to that heritage.

That same spirit of durable, honest workmanship is what drives how we operate. We do not cut corners, we do not oversell, and when we work on a Waldensian-era stone home, we understand we are working on something built to last another century.

"Valdese values its heritage of self-reliance and craftsmanship, and that resonates with how we run our business."

Common Questions

Valdese HVAC FAQ

My older Valdese home is brick and stays hot in summer. Will a bigger AC help?

Not necessarily. Brick homes absorb heat during the day and release it slowly at night, which keeps the house warm even after sundown. A properly sized system with a variable-speed blower can dehumidify and cool more effectively than an oversized unit that short-cycles. We will assess your home's thermal mass and recommend the right approach.

My home near McGalliard Falls has humidity issues. Can HVAC help?

Yes. Homes near waterways often deal with higher ambient humidity. A properly sized air conditioning system naturally removes humidity as it cools, but if the problem is severe, we can add a whole-house dehumidifier that works with your existing HVAC system.

Do you service the Waldensian Heritage Area near downtown?

Yes, we work throughout all of Valdese's neighborhoods including the older sections near downtown and along Eldred Street. Historic homes in the heritage area often require special attention to duct routing and equipment sizing, which is exactly the kind of work we specialize in.

How soon can you come out to Valdese?

Same-day and next-day appointments are typically available for Valdese residents. For emergency breakdowns, we prioritize based on urgency and will get to you as quickly as possible — we answer our phones directly, no call center.
